We have been reporting since June that the New Gen Mahindra Thar will go on sale during the latter half of 2020. But now we have the confirmation; Mahindra has decided to reveal the new Thar during the festive season, more precisely around the Independence Day i.e. 15 August.

New Thar: Design

The new generation Mahindra Thar will retain the first-gen model’s overall boxy silhouette but will come sporting several design changes to make it look a bit contemporary. These include a relatively compact seven-slat grille, raised front fenders, new front bumper, and redesigned tail lights. The SUV also gets a wider track and new design for alloy wheels.

New Thar: Specs

The biggest change on the new Mahindra Thar will be with regards to the engine options. For the first time, the Thar will be available with the option of a petrol engine. It will most likely be the 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020 and is capable of delivering 187 bhp with a peak torque of 380 Nm. It will be offered with a manual gearbox but the word on the street is that Mahindra could also offer Thar petrol with the option of an automatic transmission which will be another first for the vehicle.
